Free activities for all ages from 5-9pm: fair games, live music, dunk tank, inflatable games, foam party, corn hole, and more.
Rockville, Indiana, marks its 200th anniversary with a grand block party on the historic courthouse square. The festivities are hoping to draw both Rockville residents and surrounding neighbors alike to celebrate the community, and highlight the town’s rich heritage
The event will happen from 5 to 9 p.m. this Saturday. It includes free activities for all ages, including snow cones, cotton candy, fair games, live music, a dunk tank, inflatable games, airbrushed tattoos, face painting, foam party, corn hole, and more.
At 5:30 p.m., VFW Paul Taylor Post 1752 will be hosting a ceremony on the courthouse west side to open the sesquicentennial (150-year anniversary) time capsule. Guests will include the remaining 1974 "Rockville Belles" and their children, who were newborns when the capsule was buried.
Any residents who have letters from loved ones inside the 1974 capsule can collect their 50-year-old correspondence at the ceremony or following the event at the new Town Hall location, 119 West High Street.
Current Rockville residents will have the opportunity to place items in a new time capsule, as well. Envelopes can be purchased for $5 at Saturday's event or at the Rockville Town Hall following the event. The bicentennial time capsule will be dedicated by ceremony at 1 p.m. on Sept. 20 at Beachwood Park, home of the new Andrew Ray Veterans Memorial.
