Rochester product Garrett Winegar leaving Fishers to coach at Iowa prep program

Former Rochester student and basketball player Garrett Winegar is leaving his head coaching job at Fishers High School.

Winegar was the head coach at top-ranked 4A undefeated Fishers. The Tigers were undefeated and ranked number one in the state before falling to Carmel in the sectional championship game.

Winegar told his team on Monday that he is joining coaching staff at Iowa United Prep in Des Moines, Iowa. The program plays in the Nike EYBL Scholastic circuit during the school year and on the Nike circuit in the summer. 

Fishers was 30-1 last season. The only loss came in the 4A state championship in a 67-66 overtime upset by Jeffersonville.

Fishers won the 2024 4A state title with a 29-1 record.

Winegar was 132-25 in six seasons at Fishers. His first season as a head coach he posted an 18-6 record at Warren Central.

Winegar was a 2010 graduate of Rochester High School. He played four seasons of basketball and was a part of the Zebras’ Class 3A state runner-up finish in 2009.
