Rochester man jailed for illegal firearm possession

A Rochester man was arrested earlier this month after he was allegedly discovered to be possessing a firearm illegally.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a deputy with the Fulton County Sheriff's Department had been patrolling near Delong on April 14, when a vehicle had pulled out in front of the deputy so quickly the officer reported having to apply his breaks.

The deputy reported the suspect's vehicle had also been traveling on the wrong side of the road, resulting in the officer conducting a traffic stop. Matthew Lemur, 47, of Rochester, was soon identified as the driver.

When the deputy informed Lemarr he would be having a K9 unit brought to the scene, Lemarr reportedly handed the deputy a THC vape pen and admitted to having a rifle in the trunk of the vehicle. Fulton County dispatch advised the deputy Lemarr was not supposed to be in possession of a firearm.

Lemarr allegedly admitted to the officer that he had been released from prison approximately two years prior and knew he wasn’t supposed to have a firearm.

Lemarr was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, a Level 4 Felony; and possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor and booked at the Fulton County Jail with a $7,500 cash bond.
