Rochester man facing felony charges after allegedly beating elderly father with baseball bat

A Rochester man is facing felony charges of attempted murder after allegedly attacking his father with a baseball bat. 

Scott Roe, 34, of Rochester was arrested Saturday, August 22, on charges of attempted murder, a Level 1 Felony; and aggravated battery, a Level 3 Felony. 

According to court documents, the Fulton County Sheriff's Department was called to a residence on a report of a domestic fight with serious injuries just after 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 22. 

When officers arrived to the scene they found an injured 74-year-old man holding his head on the floor of the residence. A large amount of blood was also reported to be seen on the floor in the living room, on furniture, the victim and Roe. 

A witness at the scene said the victim had been angry with Roe and tried to grab him before Roe “snapped.” The witness initially told officers Roe punched the victim nearly a dozen times, but then changed their story and confessed he may have used a baseball bat. 

Roe admitted to police there had been an ongoing issue between him and his father, prompting a verbal altercation. When Roe and the victim separated, he claimed that he grabbed a baseball bat from his bedroom and came back to the living room to hit the man, who was sitting on the chair. Roe stated to officers he had hit him on both sides of his head. 

When asked why he hit his father with a baseball bat, Roe told officers he was trying to stand up for himself and just scare the him.  

Medics at the scene reported the man had approximately seven injuries to his head. The victim has since had severe injuries to his skull, face, jaw and hands, prompting several surgeries that included an emergency craniotomy. He is currently in a medically induced coma.

Roe was arrested at the scene and is currently being held without bail until a bond hearing.
