Comments will be accepted through June 18.
IDEM’s Air Monitoring Branch operates and maintains 73 air monitoring sites across Indiana, collecting continuous and noncontinuous samples of ambient (outdoor) air and meteorological data year-round. These efforts support Indiana’s commitment to protecting public health and the environment by providing accurate, real-time air quality data.
About the Air Monitoring Network Plan
Federal regulations (40 CFR 58.10) require IDEM to review and update Indiana’s air monitoring network annually. This review ensures the network meets current National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) and addresses factors such as data trends, population changes, new monitoring projects, site redundancy, and site access concerns.
The proposed 2026 plan details the current air quality surveillance system, describes any proposed changes, and outlines IDEM’s strategy for monitoring air quality across the state. The plan, including site locations and monitored pollutants, is available for public inspection online. Additional site details and photographs can be found in IDEM’s Data Management and Display System, which provides near real-time air quality data.
How to Participate
The public is encouraged to review the proposed plan and provide feedback. The plan is available online. Instructions for submitting comments are provided in Appendix A (on Page 79) of the plan. All comments must be received by June 18, 2025. Following the public comment period, IDEM will submit the final plan to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency by July 1, 2025.
