Samron Midwest Contracting reports that work continues on the new Wabash Cannonball Bridge project over the Wabash River Overflow near the city of St. Francisville in southern Lawrence County. They are in charge of the construction operations of the over $11 million project.
The new 13-span bridge will be more than 1,000 feet long and 30 feet wide. It will replace the original wooden single lane bridge that is only 12 feet wide. The company is closing in on the end of its contract to build the structure. Right now, the new bridge decking is being poured by crews at the site. It is hoped that if all goes well, it is conceivable that the bridge could be opened to vehicular traffic late in the year.
