Jail Bookings

• Luis A. Paredes, 19, Indianapolis, was arrested Thursday on preliminary charges of driving without ever obtaining a license, possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, driving while suspended with a prior suspension within 10 years and invasion of privacy. He was taken into custody by state police at U.S. 31 and County Road 375 North and is held without bond. 

• Darius Gillam, 34, South Bend, was taken into custody Thursday on a failure to appear warrant. He was picked up at the St. Joseph County Jail and is held without bond. 

• Nathan T. Howard, 35, Garrett, was taken into custody Thursday on a probation revocation warrant. He was picked up at the DeKalb County Jail and is held without bond. 

• Jeremy Swank, 45, Rochester, was taken into custody Thursday on an unspecified warrant at the Fulton County Probation Department and is held without bond. 

Police Incidents

Trespassing
• At 6:04 p.m. Wednesday, police received a report that a man was found trespassing at 1615 Mitchell Drive. The property manager reportedly did not wish to pursue charges and only requested that he be told to leave.

Suspicious
• Shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday, police received a report of a strange odor coming from a property in northwest Kewanna. A caller said it occurs almost every day in the early morning and causes her eyes to burn, headaches and more. 
• A home on Hazel Road was cleared by an officer shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday after a resident reported coming home to an open door. 

Ordinance related
• At 9:15 a.m. Thursday, police had two vehicles towed from 2408 Bayview Drive. They were previously red tagged and had passed the date, according to police records. Holds were placed for valid registration, and a third vehicle was red tagged at the property. A Jeep Cherokee was towed from 428 W. Seventh St. for the same reason later that morning. 
• On Thursday morning, Rochester city police left 14-day warnings for junk at 618 E. 14th St. and two unlicensed vehicles at 704 W. Ninth St. 

Break-in
• At 10:34 a.m. Thursday, police received a report that someone broke into a residence at 430 E. 18th St. A removed lock was reportedly found the following day. 

Citizen assist
• Shortly before noon Thursday, police received a report that an older couple was having trouble getting out of Lake Manitou. They were reportedly against a seawall near 2315 Westside Road. 

Gas leak
• At 12:48 p.m. Thursday, police received a report that a contractor hit a gas line at 2510 Wolfs Point Drive. NIPSCO was contacted for repairs.

Vehicle fire
• Shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday, firefighters responded to 1255 S. 1075 East, Akron, on the report of a vehicle fire – a Ford Edge smoking in the driveway, pulled away from the residence. 

Extra patrol
• At 5:16 p.m. Thursday, a man requested extra patrol for vehicles speeding on Westside Road, adding he was nearly hit by someone while backing out his boat. 

Reckless
• At 7:17 p.m. Thursday, police received a report of a road rage incident involving a semi-truck in the area of U.S. 31 and County Road 1500 North. Its back tires were reportedly smoking as a result of the incident, though it's unclear if police made a stop.
