Plymouth’s 2026 paving season is underway

Plymouth drivers can expect to see construction activity on several city streets in the coming weeks as the 2026 paving season gets officially underway. City Engineer Dan Sellers brought members of the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety up to speed on both the paving program and a recently resolved sidewalk issue during Monday evening's meeting.

Work is actively beginning on this summer's paving program, and Sellers said the contractor is kicking things off with curb and sidewalk work on Center Street and Parkview Street — the stretch behind KFC. Additional curb work is also planned for Adams Street in the near term.

The complete list of streets included in Plymouth's 2026 paving program are: Parkview Street — from the dead end to Michigan Street, Center Street — from Novelty Street to Parkview Street, Adams Street — from Plum Street to Michigan Street,  Madison Street — from 5th Street to the railroad, Kenwood Avenue — from Oak Drive to Sycamore Street and, Harrison Street — from Oak Drive to Michigan Street.

Residents on or near those streets should anticipate periodic construction activity, temporary lane restrictions, and the presence of construction equipment as work progresses through the summer.

On a note that will be welcome to residents and festival-goers alike, Sellers confirmed the contractor is fully aware of the Marshall County Blueberry Festival and has won’t cause disruption.

Sellers also updated the Board on a situation involving a pedestrian who tripped on a sunken section of newer sidewalk in the 1,000 block of Baker Street. He reported that the contractor responsible for the original work took appropriate action, removing the settled portion of the sidewalk, replacing the base fill, and pouring new concrete that properly matches the surrounding surface.

The prompt response from the contractor brought the matter to a satisfactory close, and the repaired section of sidewalk is back in safe condition for pedestrians.
