Plymouth Community School Corporation has announced the appointment of Kevin Garrity as the new Dean of Students at Plymouth High School — a homecoming of sorts for the 2010 PHS graduate who has spent the past 11 years serving students at Lincoln Junior High School.
Garrity returned to Plymouth after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from Taylor University in 2014, where he also competed on the baseball team. Since then, he has built his career at Lincoln Junior High as a social studies teacher and coach for both football and baseball. He is currently completing his master's degree in educational administration and expects to earn his administrator's license in December.
For Garrity, the new role is deeply personal.
"I have immense pride in Plymouth High School, Plymouth Community School Corporation, and our community as a whole," he said. "There is a reason I wanted to return to Plymouth after college and invest in the place that invested so much in me."
Garrity said his approach to the Dean of Students role will be grounded in the same philosophy that has defined his teaching career. "Teaching has always been about building positive relationships with students and helping them grow into the people they aspire to become. That mindset will not change with my new role."
He also looks forward to continuing relationships with students he already knows from their time at Lincoln Junior High, as well as building new connections with incoming students and families at the high school level.
Principal Jake Singleton expressed enthusiasm for the hire. "Kevin's passion for student success, commitment to our school community, and understanding of Plymouth's values make him an excellent fit for this role. We are excited to welcome him to the Plymouth High School administrative team."
