Plymouth Police respond to 2 domestic incidents Saturday

Plymouth Police officers responded to two separate domestic incidents on Saturday, August 8th, resulting in two arrests.

At approximately 1:54 a.m., officers received a 911 call regarding a possible physical domestic disturbance at the Economy Inn, located at 2535 North Michigan Street. Officers responded and located the source of the disturbance on the second floor at the southwest corner of the motel. As officers began their investigation by speaking with an involved male and female, 25-year-old Isaiah Batta took off running. Officers initiated a foot pursuit and eventually deployed a taser to take Batta into custody. He was treated at the hospital and then transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of resisting law enforcement.

Later that evening at approximately 9:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of North First Street for a reported domestic incident. The caller advised that his soon-to-be ex-wife, Samantha Luva, 33, of Plymouth, had punched him in the face. When officers arrived on the scene, Luva had already left. Officers spoke with the male, who confirmed that she had struck him in the face, and also spoke with the male's girlfriend, who corroborated the account. Neighbors told officers they had witnessed an argument outside but preferred to stay out of it.

Officers located Luva at her residence on East LaPorte Street. She was taken into custody for felony domestic battery, transported to the Marshall County Jail, and booked in.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
