The Plymouth Police Department will acquire a surplus ambulance from the Plymouth Fire Department following approval by the Board of Public Works and Safety on Monday night.

A couple of weeks ago, the city opened sealed bids for the ambulance box and chassis. Only one bid was received for $200, which the board deemed insufficient. The board opted to explore alternative disposal options for the old ambulance.

Police Chief John Weir then approached Fire Chief Steve Holm, expressing interest in using the ambulance for the Police Department.

Chief Weir told the Board of Public Works and Safety that the Police Department plans to convert the ambulance into a multi-purpose vehicle serving as both an evidence vehicle and a command vehicle.

The interdepartmental transfer of assets was unanimously approved by the board, eliminating the need to sell the vehicle and providing the Police Department with a useful resource at no cost. The sole bid received was formally rejected.
