Plymouth Police arrest Chicago man for marijuana

The smell of marijuana coming from a vehicle during a traffic stop led to the arrest of a Chicago man.

Officer Fisher with the Plymouth Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle about 5:45 p.m. Sunday evening. The vehicle was driving 75 mph in a 50-mph zone.

The vehicle pulled over on U.S. 30 east of Pioneer Drive, and during the stop, the driver was identified as Giovanny Arroyo Martinez, 38, of Chicago.

While the officer was talking to the driver, he got a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted, and 8.6 grams of marijuana were located in the vehicle.

Arroyo-Martinez was taken into custody, transported to the Marshall County Jail, and booked in for possession of marijuana and given a court date and bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
