Plymouth Park Board Approves Request to Apply for DNR Grant to Extend Greenway Trail to Price's Pond

Earlier this month the Plymouth Park Department was granted permission by the Park Board to apply for an Indiana Trails Program (ITP) grant through the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for an extension of the Greenways Trail.  The application is due by March 1st.  

The trail extension project will start at the end of the existing Greenways Trail at the intersection of Randolph Street and Plymouth-Goshen Trail on the north side of Centennial Park. The proposed trail would go along the south side of Plymouth-Goshen Trail with a sidewalk, cross over Plymouth-Goshen Trail, and include a bridge over the Elmer Seltenright Ditch.  It would then head north around the back side of Price’s Pond and then west around the pond and loop back to the existing drive in Prices Pond.

Park Board President Dave Morrow said the grant is “pretty competitive,” and explained that it is an 80/20 split for up to $500,000.   

The project involves construction in the floodway and will need to acquire a permit from DNR.  Park Superintendent Mike Hite said construction would begin in late 2024 or early 2025.  The project will also need an easement from the Centennial Crossings residential development on the north side of Plymouth Goshen Trail.

The Plymouth Park Board approved the request to apply for the Indiana Trails Program Grant through the DNR.  The park board also approved an agreement with Troyer Group for the Greenway Trail Extension Project. 

The Scope of Services for the agreement shows that Troyer Group will meet with city representatives to discuss the trail route and application process, update the Master Plan as necessary, update the preliminary cost estimate, prepare maps for the application, write the project narrative, prepare the preliminary archaeological, historical, and architectural review and compile all the application materials for the DNR grant.   The agreement is a lump sum fee of $6,700.
