Lawrence County Unit #20 Superintendent Doug Daugherty has announced that barring any setbacks, Parkside Elementary School is scheduled to be open for students and staff for the first day of school Friday, August 21st.
The school has been closed to allow for cleaning, air testing, and additional work since the discovery of mold inside during the summer months. Daugherty, in a statement released this week, indicated that the air condition units at the school are operating as expected with temperatures throughout the building being maintained.
On Wednesday, August 19th, the Regional Office of Education will conduct an inspection of the building before giving the approval for students to return. Thursday, August 20th will be a teacher's institute day, and the school will also host a "Meet the Teachers" day from 4:30 p.m. till 5:30 p.m.
School will be in session for Parkside students in grades K through 5th. PreK classes for both Unit #20 and the ROE #12 will not begin Friday with more information on them to be released later. A complete Parkside calendar will also be released soon.
