Parke County Community Foundation awards funds for Ritz renovations

Thanks to the efforts of the Parke County Community Foundation, the Ritz Theater will be getting quite a makeover in the near future. 

The Parke Players, Inc., was recently awarded $190 thousand to assist with renovations at the famous theater, which has been a Parke County staple for over a century. 

The grant funding will be used to capital improvements, including roof replacement, exterior repairs, a new movie screen and projector and ensuring the theater will continue to flourish. 

Colleen Engle, Executive Director of the Parke County Community Foundation, said she sees "firsthand" the work grants have in the community. 

"I get to see firsthand how investments like this strengthen both our sense of place and our sense of pride. The Ritz isn't just a building. It is a landmark woven into the memories, traditions and identity of Parke County," Engle told The Parke County Post. 

Engle said contributing to The Ritz's restoration feels like honoring the past while actively shaping the future. 

"There's also a real sense of gratitude. Projects like this only happen because donors trust us, partners collaborate with us and the community believes in what we're building together. Being able to help preserve such a space that generations have enjoyed and that future generations will continue to enjoy is one of those moments that reminds me why this work matters so much," Engle said. 

According to Engle, there are plenty of ways the community can get involved. 

One way is to make a direct donation to The Parke Players, who accept contributions online, by mail or in person. 

"Every gift matters. They emphasize that even small donations help move the project forward," Engle said. 

In addition, residents can support ongoing fundraising efforts, spread the word or engage and volunteer with the Parke Players.
