A two-vehicle crash on U.S. 30 at Queen Road on Tuesday morning claimed the life of one and sent a passenger of the second vehicle to a trauma center by helicopter.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the fatal accident at 8:41 a.m.
A 2000 Coleman Tractor Trailer driven by 61-year-old Nicolae Pavel was westbound on U.S. 30 approaching the Queen Road intersection. Witnesses said the semi failed to stop for the red light and crashed into a southbound 2018 Chevrolet pick-up driven by 77-year-old Richard Louzon.
Two helicopters were dispatched: one to the scene and the other to Plymouth Airport.
Louzon, who was transported from the crash scene, was later pronounced dead.
The passenger in Louzon’s pick-up, Katelynn Pekofske, a 20-year-old from Walkerton, was injured and flown from the Plymouth Airport to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
The Indiana State Police, Plymouth Fire, and EMS assisted the Marshall County Sheriff's Department.
County police were unable to provide information on where the drivers were from.
