One man was charged and his passenger injured in a single UTV accident Sunday in Knox County.
The Knox County Sheriff's Department says that deputies responded about 12:30 p.m. ET to South Hoods Road and discovered a Yamaha side-by-side overturned in a cornfield. The driver was identified as 27-year-old Jared Cummins, who showed signs of impairment.
The sheriff's department says Cummins did admit to driving the vehicle and then failed field sobriety tests before refusing additional testing at the scene. A warranted blood draw obtained from Cummins later showed a blood alcohol content of .227--more than three times the legal limit in Indiana.
Cummins was arrested and transported to the Knox County Jail, where he was being held on $10,000 bond charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 5 Indiana felony.
The passenger with Cummins was identified as 24-year-old Dawson Foster. He suffered a fractured left knee and was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery.
