Oak Hill Cemetery and neighbor reach agreement on water runoff; mobile bookstore gets downtown parking spots

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety heard an update last week on a long-running water runoff issue involving Oak Hill Cemetery and approved a seasonal parking request for a local mobile bookstore.

Oak Hill Cemetery Superintendent Mike Collins told the Board of Public Works and Safety that a collaborative solution has been worked out to address water runoff from cemetery property onto the neighboring home of Mike and Karen Olszewski at 10240 Muckshaw Road — a problem that has persisted for several years.

Under the plan, the Olszewskis have hired Chain-O-Lakes to install a culvert under their driveway near the road and level the drive with crushed asphalt, at their own expense. Oak Hill Cemetery will cover the cost of installing river rock on the side of the hill to help prevent dirt from washing down onto the driveway.

Collins expressed hope that the combined approach will finally put the drainage issue to rest.

The board also approved a request from Hinterland Bookery, a mobile bookstore, to occupy two parking spaces on East LaPorte Street in front of Ivy Terra on four Saturdays this summer: June 27th, July 25th, August 15th, and September 12th.
