The National Weather Service is warning travelers about the dangers of flooded roads.
With the extensive rainfall over the area in the past few days, rivers, creeks and streams in Lawrence and many surrounding counties have left their banks to overun nearby roads, especially in rural country regions.
Both the Embarras River at Lawrenceville and the Wabash River at Vincennes remain on the rise and are under Flood Warnings.
Many roads have been closed to travel.
Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars and trucks through flooded areas.
Keep the safety slogan in mind when approaching water over the road-"Turn Around and Don't Drown."
