Resignation letter for former North Judson Town Marshal Kelly Fisher accepted during North Judson Town Council meeting on Aug. 19, after pending theft charge from Elkhart County was discovered. The incident stemmed from Fisher allegedly skipping items at a self-checkout at a Walmart in Elkhart.
North Judson Town Council members accepted the resignation of the North Judson Town Marshal after she received a misdemeanor theft charge in Elkhart County earlier this year. It was announced at the North Judson Town Council meeting on Aug. 19 that they had accepted the resignation letter for former North Judson Town Marshal Kelly Fisher on Thursday, Aug. 15.
In her resignation letter Fisher said that she would be resigning from her position, effective Aug. 15, due to her being unable to carry out her duties fully because of previous surgeries. She also requested to be paid her vacation and PTO time.
According to court documents, former Town Marshal Kelly Fisher had been shopping with her wife at a Walmart in Elkhart when the couple were allegedly observed "skip scanning" in a self-checkout lane, holding multiple items at once and skipping over select items. It was reported that approximately $150 worth of menswear, candy and dog treats had allegedly been stolen. Court documents state that the incident happened on Jan. 25, 2024, but that charges weren't filed against the couple until March. Fisher accepted a plea deal for pre-trial diversion earlier this month.
Council members formally took action at their meeting Monday to unanimously accept her resignation. Council members also unanimously approved moving Chief Deputy Frank Thomas into the Interim Town Marshal position, and are in the hiring process to taking the next steps for reorganization of the department. Officials claim they had only recently been made aware of the theft charges and would not make any further comment regarding the pendency of the case.
