Visitors to the Marshall County Memorial Forest and the Trails at Mill Pond will see new signs posted that restrict smoking and vaping in the parks.
In September 2023 the County Park Board enacted a No Smoking Policy at the request of Tobacco Education Coordinator for Marshall County, Annette Haining. During that meeting Haining said she would provide signage that said NO SMOKING or NO VAPING. The signs would also include the park’s logo along with the Breathe Easy Marshall County logo.
Thursday evening Haining presented signs to the Marshall County Park & Recreation Board.
Signs will be posted on the kiosk at both the Memorial Forest and the Trails at Mill Pond and additional signs may be posted throughout the parks.
The policy created was enacted to enhance the experience of everyone using the park by not having to walk through second-hand smoke. Someone observed violating the policy could be asked to refrain from smoking. The parks won’t have police out enforcing the policy and violators won’t be fined or prosecuted.
