The Logansport Police Department Officer and his wife who were accused of forcing their six-year-old daughter to stand outside in freezing temperatures and hold a derogatory signs in public earlier this year appeared in Cass County Circuit Court last week for what was originally scheduled to be their final conference before trial.

A Facebook post criticizing the officer and his wife's parenting spread across social media, resulting in multiple calls and complaints to Cass Central Dispatch. Shortly after the incident the officer was placed on administrative leave. Cody Scott and his wife, Kylie Scott now both face two counts of felony child neglect.
Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Steven Glass confirmed that a full investigation was started in January and sent to the Cass County Prosecutor's Office in February. It was reported that the Cass County Department of Child Services had also assisted with the investigation.
Court documents state the charges were officially filed in March and come from two alleged incidents with the child. The first charge accuses the Scott's of forcing the victim to stand outside while holding a sign in “inclement weather/freezing temperatures for long periods of time” during a cold blast that brought extremely low temperatures on January 19. The second charge alleges the Scott's forced the child to wear and hold other degrading signs at school and in public between August 1, 2024 and January 19, that were described as being so offensive in nature that they put the girl's physical and mental health in danger.
On Thursday, July 17, attorneys representing the case scheduled a status hearing for September 3, just weeks before the jury trial currently scheduled for September 22. Cass County Circuit Court Judge Stephen Kitts II also approved a request for a modification to the case's no contact order, giving discretion to the Department of Child Services.
