The new St. Francisville bridge has now opened to vehicular traffic and soon the old bridge structure will come down.
That news was conveyed to the St. Francisville City Council Wednesday night. Samron Midwest Contracting of Murphysboro, Illinois, recently completed work on the new structure.
On Monday, Samron Midwest Contracting will return to the site for some final excavation work and to begin removal of the old bridge structure.
The council did approve the acceptance of a single sealed bid of just over $300 received for the former city hall/church building vacated by the city at 810 Main Street. The city put the property up for bid after deciding to return to its former city hall location in the old St. Francisville school.
Discussion on a new garbage collection contract was tabled for further study and review. The city currently is served by Republic Services. The move to table the matter was made to allow city officials to seek comparable prices.
