The National Youth Advocate Program is opening up its new regional headquarters in Terre Haute with a ribbon cutting from 10am -12pm and from 5-7pm on Tuesday September 17th.
The event will take place at their location on the 5th floor of the building at 30 N. 8th Street, in Terre Haute, Suite 501. The ribbon cutting ceremony will include light refreshments and will be a great opportunity for anybody interested to learn more about NYAP and mingle with key community leaders.
NYAP is a private licenser which helps potential foster parents and get them paired with children in need. This includes 31 hours of training modules before starting foster care, as well as weekly or monthly meetings in the home to support the family, depending on their need level.
The Terre Haute Regional Branch of NYAP services 8 counties in the West Central Indiana area. Those counties are Clay, Greene, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion, and Vigo.
The mission statement for NYAP states that they are “an energetic instrument of compassion and change in the lives of children, youth, and families and the systems, structures, and practices that affect them.”
As of July 2024, there are over 16,000 children with Department of Child Services Cases in Indiana. In the Terre Haute region that this new branch of NYAP serves, over 1000 kids are currently in some form of foster care, whether that be with relatives, foster parents, or in their original homes.
If you would like to get involved and become a foster parent, you can go to NYAP’s website and fill out their inquiry form, or email becomeafosterparent@nyap.org
