A Mentone man was recently arrested after he was accused of battering a pregnant woman in April.
According to court documents, an officer with the Mentone Police Department responded to a domestic incident on April 17, after a pregnant woman had allegedly been battered. The victim at the scene told police she had been battered by 33-year-old Derek Flenner and that Flenner had been aware she was pregnant prior to the incident.
According to the victim, Flenner had held the woman down forcefully, refusing to let the victim get up. When the victim was able to get back on her feet, Flenner allegedly grabbed the woman by the neck.
When police spoke with Flenner about the incident, however, he denied all accusations about a physical altercation occurring with the woman.
Officers at the scene noted the woman to have red marks on her wrist, arms and neck.
Flenner was arrested and charged with domestic battery resulting in bodily injury to a pregnant woman, a Level 5 Felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor and booked at the Kosciusko County Jail, but was later released on his own recognizance. Flenner has an initial hearing on May 21.
