Memphis Underground kicks off weekend at Mayor's Summer of Music in Plymouth

The Mayor's Summer of Music continues this Friday evening with Memphis Underground, the high-energy dance band making its return to River Park Square in downtown Plymouth.

The eight-piece ensemble takes the stage at 7 p.m., but the evening kicks off early with a full lineup of food trucks ready to serve by 5:30 p.m. Attendees can grab dinner from Pig in a Pen, known for their tasty tenderloins, and Dainty Donuts, serving up their signature blueberry donuts. Also on hand will be Apex Ice, Fire Truck Pizza, and Chagos Tacos, offering a range of options to enjoy before and during the show.

Memphis Underground brings an energetic and entertaining set that blends Blues, Motown, Rock, and Funk with current music. The combination of soulful vocals, passionate guitar, and a rocking horn section makes for a great night of dancing and live music under the open sky.

Based in South Bend and the greater Michiana area — spanning northern Indiana and southern Michigan — the band plays a versatile mix of Memphis soul, Motown, classic rock and roll, blues, funk, and contemporary dance music. The ensemble features multiple lead vocalists, including soulful male and female singers, alongside a passionate guitar player, keyboards, a rhythm section, and a rocking horn and saxophone section.

Memphis Underground has become a popular staple at regional festivals and outdoor community concert series across the Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan region, and Friday's performance promises to bring that same festival energy to downtown Plymouth.

Admission is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, a cooler with their favorite beverage, and arrive early to grab a bite from the food trucks and secure a good spot.
