May Day National Day of Action protest held in Winamac

Around 20 people gathered in front of the Pulaski County Courthouse in Winamac on Saturday, May 3, for a May Day National Day of Action protest to oppose President Donald Trump's administration and policies.

Among those attending was Janis Miller of Winamac. She has also attended previous protests at the same location. Although small compared to the other countless towns and cities across the country holding similar May Day protests, Miller feels now is the time everyone needs to let their voices be heard. Miller said she hopes the protests and voices of Americans are eventually heard and change can be done about the recent policies.

Many of the other protesters at Saturday's event in Winamac said they were protesting the administration's moves on defunding of public schools,  privatizing public services, starting a tariff war, and more.

The third protest held this year at the courthouse, the organizer of the event, who requested to be unnamed, said the previous protests had around 30 people each time.

"It's always by word of mouth. We don't post about politics on social media, or advertise protesting or anything. It's just people who are sick of the things that have went on this year. It's not about what political party you are on, it's not a democrat thing. Anyone is welcome to join us. Many of us work in business and are already seeing the affects of the recent tariffs and budget cuts already. Just wait, in another two weeks we will have more people joining us," the anonymous organizer said.
