The Marshall County Museum in downtown Plymouth will ring in America's 250th birthday with a special Kids' Day celebration on New Year's Eve, offering children and families an educational afternoon of patriotic crafts and activities.
The event, scheduled for Dec. 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., marks the beginning of the nation's semiquincentennial year with hands-on activities designed to engage young visitors in American history and traditions.
Children will have the opportunity to participate in several activities, including crafting historical toys, designing paper quilts inspired by traditional American patterns, and embarking on a museum scavenger hunt. The event will also feature prize giveaways and interactive games that caregivers can join.
A highlight of the afternoon will be model train demonstrations by "Smokey" the Engineer, offering a nostalgic glimpse into American transportation history.
The 2025 celebration commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Museums and historical societies across the nation are planning special events throughout the year to mark this milestone.
