A Marshall County Sheriff's deputy arrested a woman early Tuesday morning after locating a stolen vehicle he had been searching for since the previous evening — and discovering additional charges in the process.
Deputy Wozniak responded Monday evening, July 6th, at approximately 8:30 p.m. to an address in the 7900 block of Union Road for a reported vehicle theft. After collecting information and issuing an attempt-to-locate broadcast, the deputy continued patrolling the area. Shortly after 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, he spotted the stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on 8th Road and was able to follow it as it parked in front of a residence.
The driver, identified as Candice L. Thomas, 32, of North Judson, told the deputy she had been in the process of purchasing the vehicle from a third party. During the investigation, deputies determined Thomas had a suspended driver's license with a prior conviction. A search of the vehicle also turned up suspected drug paraphernalia with residue that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Thomas was transported to the Marshall County Jail, where a pill was discovered on her person during intake. The pill was identified as both a controlled substance and a legend drug, adding to the charges against her.
Thomas was booked on charges of driving while suspended with a prior, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a legend drug. Her cash bond was set at $1,500. Tim's Towing assisted at the scene.
Charges related to the vehicle theft remain under investigation and will be forwarded to the prosecutor's office for review.
