Plymouth’s Marian University Ancilla’s mens wrestling team stepped off the mat to help volunteer at the Marshall County Historical Museum.
Wrestlers Joseph, Haven, Sonny, Jake, Britton, Andy, Carter, Branson, and Dylan helped to move and organize furniture and supplies for the museum. Under the new Head Coach, James Davis, the team of young adults came together after school hours to help pour into and give back to the community, which is not local to many of the athletes.
The wrestling team is made up of young men from multiple states, some distant from Indiana. With wrestlers from Ohio, Illinois, and Wyoming, this group wanted to thoughtfully give back to a community they are not native to. Because of their unique backgrounds, each wrestler was able to bring a diverse skillset to help serve the community and use their abilities in a selfless, meaningful way. Volunteering opportunities, such as this, help encourage young athletes to take time to step out of their comfort zone and grow as community leaders and to connect with their town in a meaningful way.
“This time at the museum was more than just community service,” said Coach Davis. “We were able to connect with them, and they were able to connect and bond with their new community.”
Thanks to Coach Davis’s leadership and commitment to instilling the importance of community, the team was able to walk away with a deeper understanding of the town and what it means to be an active, responsible member of the community. Every athlete was grateful for the experience and was very motivated to connect with the town again.
