The Lawrence County Board has voted to increase the application fee for companies looking to locate solar projects in the county.

The move was made by the board as an amendment to its solar energy ordinance adopted back in 2023. The approval was given after getting an opinion on its legality by Lawrence County States Attorney Brady Waldrop.

The amendment raises the application fee from $5000 up to $25,000. Board chairman Jim Brewer said that the increase brings the county more in line with surrounding counties.

The board also reappointed Todd Tiffany to a three-year term as a trustee of the Lawrence-Allison Fire Protection District and approved a resolution setting the salaries of the county clerk, county treasurer and circuit clerk from 2026 through 2029.
