A Kewanna man was recently arrested after he was accused of battering his girlfriend and holding her against her will.
According to court documents, officers with the Fulton County Sheriff's Department were called to a home on Troutman St in Kewanna June 20 after neighbors reported hearing a female yelling for help. Once on scene officers spoke with 29-year-old Adam Lindley, who was observed as being noticeably sweaty, breathing heavily. When questioned, Lindley was noted to be hard to understand when talking and was asked to repeat his responses to officers several times. Lindley was also reported to be unsteady on his feet and eventually admitted he had been drinking.
Lindley explained to officers that he had been in an argument over the phone that evening, but that there was not a domestic dispute. As Lindley spoke officers noted him to be speaking in an aggressive tone with vulgar language. Lindley told officers his girlfriend had been the only other person in the home, but that she was sleeping in bed and that he did not want to wake her up.
During the interaction officers reportedly heard a female voice several times yelling from the back of the residence. In an attempt to defuse Lindley from resisting or acting impulsively he was asked by officers to come outside of the residence multiple times before he complied. Once outside with police, a third officers at the scene was asked to check on the female inside the home.
When first responding to the officer announcing himself in the back bedroom he found a woman who was severely beaten and suffering from a broken jaw, severely swollen chin, a non-responsive right eye, a hematoma on the back of her head and it appeared she was grabbed by the neck due to marks. Severe bruising around her knee cap and shin area were also observed. Lindley was arrested at the scene and charged with criminal confinement, a level 4 felony, and domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony and booked at the Fulton County Detention Center.
The woman was transported to Woodlawn Hospital. Police later discovered that while en route to the hospital she had stopped breathing, but medics were eventually able to resuscitate her. When speaking with officers about the incident at the hospital the woman told police she wasn't sure what made Lindley mad before he began throwing her around like a rag doll by her hair. She stated Lindley had slapped her, kicked her in the right side of the face and hit her head against the wall multiple times. She also stated he kicked her several times in attempt to break both of her legs.
During the assault the victim claimed Lindley had taken away her phone to prevent her from calling 911 and would forcibly pull her back in the residence when she attempted to flee. Police discovered this was not the first domestic dispute the victim had with Lindley. The woman had filed for a protection order and the hearing had been scheduled for that day, but Lindley had confined her in the house and wouldn’t let her go.
She stated Lindley had threatened to kill her and she was in fear for her life during the assault. The woman told police whoever called the police saved her life.
