Loved for both their beauty and holistic healing, the use of crystals, gems and minerals have a long history of captivating human fascination outside of current New Age practices and trends. From the ancient Egyptians using crystals like turquoise, carnelian and emeralds for protection, health and cosmetic purposes, to the use of calcite, fluorite, selenite and other crystals being a main component in ancient Chinese medicine for nearly 5,000 years.

Kara Dullagan has taken a passion for teaching others about the healing properties of crystals, minerals and gems, starting her small business Kara's Crystal Connections five years ago, reselling her collection of alleged healing tools. Despite no actual scientific evidence supporting crystal healing, Dullagan says she, among most of her crystal clients, remain believers in the practice as an alternative medical technique to induce relaxation, better mental health and protection against diseases. While crystals should never be trusted to completely replace medical treatments for things like severe anxiety, depression and other conditions that should be diagnosed by a medical professional, Dullagan said they can be used as a tool to help create a better sense of well-being and mindfulness.

Dullagan is opening new doors for both her business and the community by hosting a free workshop at the Fulton County Public Library in Rochester on Monday, Aug. 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Planning on her passion and knowledge for an educational journey into the world of crystal healing, the event will teach attendees about the alleged properties and benefits of a wide range of crystals. Her resell collection will also be available for purchase for anyone looking to take home some of Dullagan's treasures.
Dullagan says whether you're a curious beginner or a seasoned crystal collector everyone and anyone is welcome to the event.
