Ivy Tech Terre Haute / Greencastle to enhance dual enrollment with local foundation grants

Ivy Tech Community College Terre Haute / Greencastle has received grant funding from the Parke County Community Foundation, Putnam County Community Foundation and Western Indiana Community Foundation to support dual enrollment opportunities for area high school students.

The funding will help reduce financial barriers for students who want to earn college credit while still in high school. Through dual enrollment courses, students can complete college-level coursework, make progress toward credentials, and prepare for future education and career opportunities.

Ivy Tech works closely with area high schools to provide both dual credit and dual enrollment opportunities that help students earn college credit before graduation. While dual credit courses allow students to earn college credit through classes taught at their high school by credentialed high school instructors, dual enrollment courses are taught by Ivy Tech instructors, either on campus or online, and help fill gaps in course offerings when certain classes are not available at the high school.

One of the credentials students can pursue is the Indiana College Core (ICC), a 30-credit-hour block of general education coursework that transfers among Indiana public colleges and universities and fulfills the first year of college requirements. Completing the ICC in high school can save students time and thousands of dollars in future tuition costs.

“Community partnerships are essential to creating opportunities that help students achieve their goals,” said Lea Anne Crooks, Chancellor of Ivy Tech Terre Haute / Greencastle. “The generosity of the Western Indiana Community Foundation, Parke County Community Foundation and Putnam County Community Foundation allows us to continue removing barriers and ensuring more students have access to opportunities that prepare them for the future while still in high school.”

Students who qualify must be enrolled in dual credit courses at a high school in Putnam County, Vermillion County, or Parke County and be making progress toward completing a credential. To
