Ivy Tech Community College is launching a dynamic series of Saturday events in Columbus and Franklin designed for high school students interested in technology, electronics, engineering, or virtual reality.
The Green2Gold STEM Saturdays Innovation Series is a free series of hands-on workshops for students ages 14–18 to explore cutting-edge technologies—from drones and electronics to 3D printing and virtual reality—while building real-world skills in a fun, supportive environment.
The series kicks off Sept. 20 with a session on drone aviation in Columbus. Future sessions will be in Franklin and Columbus, each tailored to spark innovation and discovery:
Soldering & Electronics — Students will learn the fundamentals of circuitry and safe soldering techniques. No prior experience required.
Drones — Participants will take flight and explore aerial navigation and safety. The Columbus session also features a collaboration with the local RC Car Club.
CAD Design, 3D Printing & VR — Hosted at The Propeller in Columbus, these immersive workshops introduce students to digital design, additive manufacturing, and virtual reality tools—bridging imagination with innovation.
Workshop dates:
Ivy Tech Franklin: Dec. 6 (Soldering & Electronics), April 25 (Drones)
Ivy Tech Columbus: Sept. 20 (Drones), Nov. 22 (CAD Design, 3D Printing & VR), Feb. 28 (Soldering & Electronics), June 27 (CAD Design, 3D Printing & VR).
“These STEM Saturdays are more than workshops—they’re launchpads for future innovators,” said Aakash Gupta, Ivy Tech Green2Gold Engineering Program Chair. “We’re proud to offer engaging, hands-on experiences that connect students to technology, creativity, and community.”
