Police are investigating after a Logansport man was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday in Peru.
Troopers from the Indiana State Police Peru District and deputies from the Miami County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in Peru shortly after 9 p.m. Friday.
A preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Todd Trottier revealed a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander driven by Stephanie Dewitt, of Peru, was traveling west on U.S. 24, approaching County Road 550 East. Dewitt's vehicle struck a pedestrian, later identified as Jeffrey Moss, 66, of Logansport. Further investigation revealed Moss was crossing from the south to the north side of U.S. 24.
Moss was pronounced dead at the crash scene by the Miami County Coroner's Office.
It was dark out at the time of the crash, and alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash. However, toxicology results are pending at this time.
The information above is preliminary; the investigation is ongoing, and there is no further information to be released at this time.
Trottier was assisted on the scene by troopers from the Peru Post, Miami County Sheriff's Office, Roann Fire Department, Duke's EMS and Miami County Coroner's Officer.
