Buffalo 8 has announced the summer release on North American VOD of Invaders from Proxima B.
The family friendly science fiction comedy is from writer/director/star Ward Roberts (Indiana University Bloomington 2000, Westworld, Agents of SHIELD) and Samantha Sloyan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass). Roberts is from Peru, Indiana.
Invaders from Proxima B debuted exclusively on Fandango at Home May 31.
Invaders from Proxima B was directed by Peru native Roberts from his own script. Roberts produced under his DrexelBox Films outfit alongside Mike C. Nelson, whom he met during their undergrad days at Indiana University Bloomington. There they met Travis Betz of South Bend, and the three have collaborated on DrexelBox projects since.
In his youth, Roberts participated for two summers in the Peru Amateur Circus, and created television and short films for local public access. When he began his filmmaking career in earnest, his debut feature Little Big Top (2005) was filmed in the Peru Amateur Circus and starred the late genre icon Sid Haig, and premiered at the Heartland Film Festival in Indianapolis. Since 2018, Roberts has co-hosted the popular Hoosier Hysterics podcast, covering IU athletics alongside fellow Hoosier Eric Pankowski.
Invaders from Proxima B had its world premiere at the Austin Film Festival. The cast is rounded out by Sloyan, Mike C. Nelson (Shrinking, Black-ish), Richard Riehle (Office Space, Casino), Jeremiah Birkett (Black Cake, Euphoria), and Sarah Lassez (Nowhere, Lo).
