Indiana Clean Sweep program offers free disposal option for pesticides in Fulton County

The Indiana Clean Sweep Pesticide Disposal Program is giving Indiana residents the oppurtunity to safely and legally dispose of unwanted pesticides again this year. 

Sponsored by the Office of Indiana State Chemist at Purdue University, the Clean Sweep program helps locals properly dispose of suspended, canceled, banned, unusable, opened, unopened, or otherwise unwanted pesticides. 

The program was created to protect Indiana’s environment while helping participants remove potentially hazardous materials from farms, businesses, and storage facilities. Accepted products include herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, rodenticides, miticides, and other pesticide products. 

Programs such as Clean Sweep play an important role in environmental stewardship. Proper pesticide disposal helps prevent accidental exposure, contamination of water resources, and improper disposal practices.

The disposal service is free for up to 250 pounds of pesticides per participant. Those with materials that exceed that amount will be assessed a fee of $3 per pound after 250 pounds. The program is open to farmers, agricultural dealers, nurseries, golf courses, schools, municipalities, county governments, and the general public. Participants are reminded not to mix materials, and empty pesticide containers will not be accepted. Bulk containers must be documented on the participant form prior to disposal.

The Fulton County collection event will be held on August 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nutrien Ag, 7901 S 100 W, near Rochester.

Those interested must complete a Clean Sweep Pesticide Disposal Participant Form and submit it by Aug. 7, 2026.

Forms may be submitted by email, mail, or fax to the Office of Indiana State Chemist. Those bringing materials to a collection site should ensure containers are leak-free and safe to transport.
