The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced this week that $157 million will be available for projects throughout the state through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP). The funding is part of the Rebuild Illinois initiative.
Projects eligible for funding include biking and walking paths, trails, and streetscape beautification work and other improvements designed to encourage safe travel across the various modes of transportation at the local level. At least 25% of the available state money will be allocated to disadvantaged and economically distressed communities.
Applicants can include local governments and regional planning commissions. The city of Lawrenceville is among those looking at projects to improve pedestrian and bike travel. Nonprofit and private entities that apply must have a public sponsor. The maximum award is $5 million.
Applications must be received by Monday, October 5th, 2026. Awards will be announced in 2027.
