Illinois State Police Troop 9 based in Effingham has announced they will be conducting Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols in Lawrence and five other southeastern Illinois counties in October.
Those patrols will focus on impaired driving and the illegal transportation and consumption of alcohol or drugs. Troopers on the detail will be watchful for motorists who show signs of impaired driving, operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked license, improper seat belt usage, distracted driving and other Illinois Vehicle Code violations.
The latest statistics show that alcohol and drug impairment is estimated to be a determining factor in more than 47% of all fatal motor vehicle accidents across the state of Illinois. In addition to Lawrence, other counties on the patrol list include Clay, Effingham, Marion, Wayne and White.
