The state of Illinois is marking the fifth year anniversary of the legalization of adult use cannabis in the state.
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) released figures that show that 2024 marked the fourth consecutive year of record-setting sales.
Overall, dispensaries across the state reported more than $2 billion of cannabis product was sold in 2024, up 2.5% from the previous year.
More than $490 million in sales taxes were collected at those locations in 2024.
It was also noted that more than $385 million of adult use cannabis product was purchased by out-of-state residents in Illinois during the year.
There are currently 244 adult use cannabis dispensaries licensed in Illinois, including a location in Lawrence County in downtown Lawrenceville.
