On Thursday, September 19th, at 4:20 PM, Marshall County Officer Wozniak was on U.S. 31 near 17th Road when he observed a sport bike motorcycle exceeding the posted speed limit. The officer caught up to the motorcycle at U.S. 31 and State Road 10, where the bike had turned westbound on State Road 10.
The driver was later identified as 18-year-old Austin R. Hedrick of Gary. The officer observed Hendrick lift the front of his motorcycle into a wheel-stand on State Road 10 east of Lilac Road while still exceeding the posted speed limit.
Deputy Wozniak stopped the motorcycle on State Road 10 at Mulberry Road, and Hendrick was taken into custody. He was transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked in for Reckless Driving with a $100 cash bond. Lyon’s Towing impounded the motorcycle.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury, at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
