Gov. Braun with visits across the region including stops in Pulaski, Miami counties

Governor Mike Braun last week visited communities across Indiana to meet with local leaders, tour one of Indiana’s historic landmarks, highlight regional economic development opportunities and hear directly from county and city officials about the issues facing their communities.

“Last week in stops across Tippecanoe, Porter, Pulaski and Miami counties, I met with local leaders working to preserve Indiana history, grow regional economies, address housing and property tax challenges, and bring new investment into their communities. Indiana’s strength comes from leaders who know their communities best, and my administration will keep working with them to move every region of our state forward," said Governor Mike Braun.

On Wednesday, Governor Braun visited Tippecanoe Battlefield Memorial Park in Battle Ground, where he toured the park and met with local elected officials and community leaders.

Governor Braun toured the park with Tippecanoe County Parks Director Randy Lower, who showed the Governor the battlefield and highlighted recent storm damage. Governor Braun also met with Tippecanoe County Commissioner President Tracy Brown, other county officials, local mayors and economic development leaders to discuss local priorities and the importance of preserving Indiana’s historic sites.

Later Wednesday, Governor Braun traveled to Valparaiso University for IBJ Media’s Innovate Northwest Indiana event, part of the Innovate Indiana series focused on regional economic growth across the state.

During the fireside chat conversation, Governor Braun discussed northwest Indiana’s important role in the state’s economic development strategy built on regionalism, the opportunity for growth in the Region, and his administration’s focus on higher wages and new job opportunities for Hoosiers. The Governor also discussed Indiana’s regional economic development strategy, support for existing employers and Main Street businesses, and the importance of meeting future energy demand while keeping costs affordable for Hoosier families and businesses. Governor Braun then visited Pulaski County, where he met with county officials and local leaders in Winamac. The discussion focused on property taxes, solar projects, population decline, housing availability and the long-term needs of rural communities.

The meeting gave Governor Braun an opportunity to hear directly from Pulaski County leaders about how future property tax changes could affect local taxing units, how solar development may affect assessed value, and how housing availability continues to shape population growth and economic opportunity in rural Indiana.

Governor Braun ended the day in Miami County, where he met with Peru Clerk/Treasurer Andrea Newnum.
