The Mary Heath Foundation has awarded a local fire district a $5000 grant check for new equipment.
Assistant Chief Jake Brian and Captain Barkley White of the Christy Fire Protection District were presented the award recently It will be used to obtain a new Sensit Gold G3 unit. It will used to help find above and below ground gas leaks, monitor confined spaces and check for dangerous gases during overhaul. The new unit will be able to detect carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen cyanide and other gases.
The Christy Fire Protection District based in Sumner in western Lawrence County operates out of two stations and provides over 168 square miles in Lawrence, Richland, and Crawford Counties with fire, emergency rescue, and first responder medical services.
