A deputy spotted a man identified as Christopher S. Evans, 35, of Logansport, armed with knives.
The Indiana State Police, at the request of the Cass County Sheriff's Office, is investigating a police-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a Logansport man.
Preliminary investigations by Indiana State Police detectives revealed that just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, deputies from the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in the 3000 block of W. County Road 500 S. regarding a report of two individuals who had been stabbed.
Deputies discovered one victim and began administering life-saving measures. While retrieving additional medical supplies from their patrol vehicle, a deputy spotted a man identified as Christopher S. Evans, 35, of Logansport, armed with knives. The deputy issued several commands to Evans, but he failed to comply, leading to an altercation. Evans charged at the deputy, who retreated into an adjacent field. The deputy subsequently discharged a weapon, striking Evans at least once.
Despite life-saving efforts, Evans succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Notification to Evans' family has been made. One victim remains in critical but stable condition, while the other victim's injuries are not considered life-threatening.
No deputies were injured during the incident. The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure for the Cass County Sheriff's Office following an officer-involved shooting.
The Indiana State Police is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Carrol County Coroner's Office and the Carrol County Prosecutor's Office.
Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be submitted to the Carroll County Prosecutor's Office for review.
The incident took place on a county road separating Carroll and Cass Counties. Deputies responded to a location in Cass County, although the incident occurred in Carroll County.
