A new local winery is set to open its doors Saturday afternoon in Putnam County.
Big Walnut Winery , 5985 N County Road 275 E, Greencastle, will open to the public at 1 p.m. and owners hope the business will give customers a feel for their love of wines.
"We used to go on a lot of the wine trails visiting all the different wineries big and small. It was the smaller ones that got us interested, and we thought it would be a fun thing to do together. We are excited to bring a little something different to the community," Debbie Cloncs told The Putnam County Post.
Debbie, along with Roger Cloncs, will operate the winery Friday through Sunday. The winery will be open Friday and Saturday in the summer from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. In the winter, the hours will change to 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Big Walnut Winery will be closed Thanksgiving and Christmas.

"We have a rustic setting with flowers, deer and wildlife. We are hoping to give the community a more of a feeling of being at home relaxing versus commercial," Roger Cloncs said.
Big Walnut Winery will feature dry, semi-sweet and sweet wines, along with wine slushies and hard cider.
"We are excited, but a little nervous, too. We have never done anything like this before," Susan Cloncs said.
