Back to School safety reminder from the Indiana State Police

As students across Indiana head back to school, the Indiana State Police is reminding all Hoosiers to plan, slow down, and stay alert, especially in school zones and near bus stops.

Drive Smart

Leave early and expect more traffic in the mornings and afternoons.
Watch for flashing school zone signs and obey reduced speed limits.
Never pass a stopped school bus with its stop arm extended. It is not just dangerous, it is illegal.

Be Alert

Expect children to be walking or biking, especially near neighborhoods and crosswalks.
Avoid distractions, put the phone down, and focus on the road.
Give school buses and crossing guards extra space and time.

Talk With Your Kids

Make sure your child knows how to cross safely and when it’s okay to approach the bus.
Remind them to stay alert, avoid distractions, and look both ways before crossing any street.
