The new art display in the gallery at the Fulton County Public Library in Rochester highlights the mix-media work of Christine Walsh.

“I normally do photography, but wanted to expand my art by using the mixed media and repurposed items. I really wanted to show the community different ways you can create art because many people think of art as just paintings and it is so much more,” Walsh said.

An art reception was held on Friday, Oct. 3, from 4 p.m. to 5:45 pm with Walsh to show her mixed-media art pieces she constructed from discarded and repurposed materials.

Walsh said each piece is a conversation between what once was and what it has become. Among some of the pieces closest to her heart, the pink floral display represents her battle with breast cancer.

Another unique piece including in Walsh's display made from repurposed straws gives a visual on how small plastic everyday items take up more space than people realize when accumulated.

For those interested in checking out Walsh's mixed-media display, her art will remain at the gallery in the Fulton County Public Library until the end of October.
