One of Marshall County's most beloved summer traditions returns this weekend as the 42nd Annual Culver Lakefest opens Friday, July 17th, at 4 p.m. and runs through Sunday, July 19th, at 3 p.m. This year's theme, "Always On Duty," is dedicated to honoring the men and women of Culver's emergency services — the Culver Police Department, Culver Fire Department, Culver Union Township EMS, and Culver School Resource Officers.
"These dedicated individuals serve our community every day with courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment," said Lakefest President Justin Croy. "This weekend, allow us to recognize these everyday heroes and thank them for all they do."
The 100% community-funded festival is made possible entirely through volunteers, sponsors, and donors.
Friday, July 17th
The festival opens at 4 p.m. with a salute-to-the-troops flag ceremony, followed by food and craft vendors, a tug-of-war between Culver emergency services, the Miss Max Pageant, and live music at 7:30 p.m. by Ain's Ryte on the main stage.
Saturday, July 18th
Saturday is packed from early morning through evening. The day begins at 7:45 a.m. with a half-mile sparkler run for kids, followed at 8 a.m. by the Waves of Freedom 5K Run/Walk and the Lions Club pancake breakfast. Vendor and food booths open at 9 a.m., and the 42nd Annual Lakefest Parade steps off at 10 a.m.
Throughout the afternoon, enjoy live music by The Nightshift Band and The Super Kools, kids' games, a hot dog eating contest, and a cornhole tournament. New this year, the Culver Firemen's Fest runs from 5 to 8 p.m. The evening caps off with a spectacular fireworks display over Lake Maxinkuckee.
Sunday, July 19th
The Lions Club pancake breakfast starts the day, with festival food and craft booths open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A community church service is scheduled at 9 a.m., and canoe races and the Lakefest Car Show also get underway at 9. Walker's Creek and the Hound Dogs take the main stage at 11 a.m., and a free throw contest is set for noon.
