A Peru man was arrested Tuesday in Logansport on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and intimidation with a deadly weapon.

According to police reports, the incident with the man was first reported on Tuesday from the Science Project, 611 North St in Logansport, just after 8:30 p.m. Employees at the restaurant told Cass County dispatchers that a man had been in the establishment threatening another man with a knife. Before officers were able to arrive, dispatch received another call that the man who was wielding the knife left the restaurant and was headed east on Broadway Street.

The suspect allegedly stabbed a 63-year-old man sitting on a park bench on the 600 block of Broadway St.

George Mellor, 39, of Peru, was immediately taken into custody at the scene on charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 3 felony; and Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 Felony.

The 63-year-old victim sustained multiple stab wounds and was eventually flown to Parkview Hospital in Ft.Wayne. The victim was reported to be in critical but stable condition.
